After working together creatively on the short film “Alley Pop” in 2010, Jeff Fowler and Jer Tobin decided to co-direct once again on the new comedy “Updates”.

“Updates” is a short comedy about Ben Bagsby (Played by local theater and improv veteran Dane Bower)–a small town polka band star who isn’t having much luck in the dating world because of his love for polka and his long list of qualities a woman must have to catch his interest. His best friend Ray (Played by local actor and co creator of the film Jer Tobin) offers to help Ben find the woman of his dreams through the teachings of a dating guide written by the actor Christopher Walken. The guide details how to use your presence on Facebook–and Walken’s rule that “Women want what they can’t have”–to your advantage.

The film also stars Robyn Rasmovicz, Christina Wildes, and offers up a supporting cast of familiar local Northeast Pennsylvania theater faces including: Ashlee Danko, Betsy Seaforth and Cate McDonald. The film features music from local artists Chet Williams, Casey James Burke, The Great Party, and Sodaboy.

The duration of the entire event will be 75 minutes and will include other short films from local filmmakers.

FREE Admission
FREE Parking

Since 2002 Jeff Fowler has been writing, directing, and producing indie films in NEPA including “Who’s Famous Now?” and the “Pumped” trilogy: “Get Pumped”, “10-66″, and “Born Pumped”. Jeff is also the co-founder and president of Community Film Project.

Jer Tobin has acted in over 30 indie film productions over the past 6 years and “Updates” marks his second foray into film production, having co-written, produced and directed the film with Fowler.

The Graduate and Continuing Education Student Organization (GCESO) serves the needs of the adult learner at the University of Scranton and is sponsoring this event. Proceeds from concessions and monetary donations will benefit the Edward R. Leahy Jr. Clinic for the Uninsured.

Since 2004, Community Film Project (CFP) has facilitated the production and promotion of regional motion picture projects throughout NEPA.

Just a reminder of this Saturday’s Community Film Project’s shirts screening at the DeNaples Center 900 Mulberry St. University of Scranton. Doors open at 7:30 pm and the program begins at 8. Admission is free and open to the general public.

Ranging from comedy to action to suspense, each of the evening’s short films have been produced in Northeast Pennsylvania, entirely utilizing local talent both in front of and behind the camera by CFP member over its seven years of operation. Among the selections to be screened will be entries from the popular “Pumped!” series, including the “Born Pumped,” winner of both the Film of the Year Fans’ Choice and the Film of the year Judges’ Choice awards at last year’s Roslyn Film Festival and the You Tube sensation “Heyna-bonics” (over 305,000 views and climbing).

The evening will also feature the premier of “Transition,” directed by former University of Scranton student Garrett Geary. The film will center on a young man and those close to him contemplate life, death, loss, and what is right in the aftermath of a tragedy.

“It originated as a short script that I had done for a class while attending college,” says Geary. “If one were to read the original script, there was almost no resemblance to the finished short film. Most of the dialogue between the actors was expanded and further improved on set. Due to factors such as weather, crew availability and scheduling, improvisation was used heavily while shooting. I owe everything to the crew and cast for making the project possible.”

Come on out a support your local filmmakers!
